Pennsylvania State USBC Tournament Overview |
The Pennsylvania State Pepsi USBC Youth
Championships begins with league level qualifying. Centers with USBC
certified Youth Division leagues are automatic qualifying sites.
Since the tournament is a benefit of membership, there is no entry
fee at this level.
League level
qualifying will be conducted during two windows, each window
consisting of two full weeks. The dates are as follows:
1st Window: November 2 through November 16, 2008
Qualifying
competition is held in six divisions that are based on the
Participant’s age as of August 1, 2008. The Divisions are: (Note: 11
& Under - Born on August 1, 1996 or Later, Age 12 and Above - Born
Before August 1, 1996)

One in every eight participants will advance to the District Level
of Competition in each division. At the District Level, the 1st
and 2nd Place finishers in each of the Four Handicap
Divisions will receive a $300 and $200 scholarship respectively.
This totals $20,000 in
scholarships to be awarded.
For the Scratch Divisions, the same will hold true where there are
more than ten participants in the division, otherwise only 1st
Place will be awarded a $300 Scholarship. Based on previous
tournaments, this scholarship total will be $8,100.
A minimum of one in ten entries from the District Level will also
advance onto the State Finals and compete for over $28,800 in
Scholarships to be offered.
Total scholarships to be offered in
this tournament will be just shy of $57,000.
At the State Finals the top two finishers in each Scratch Division
will receive a berth into the 2009 USBC Junior Gold Championships,
July 11-17, 2009 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They will have their $150
entry fee paid for by USBC. The advancers must be Gold program
members, or be eligible and purchase a membership prior to the
championships. There is no requirement to be a Gold program member
to enter the Scratch Division at the Center, District or State
level.
The 2008 National Tournament was the last conducted by the USBC. The State
Finals mark the end of the road for all of the handicap divisions.
