2007-2008 Pennsylvania State Pepsi USBC Youth Championships Tournament Overview

The Pennsylvania State Pepsi USBC Youth Championships begins with league level qualifying. Centers with USBC certified Youth Division leagues are automatic qualifying sites. Since the tournament is a benefit of membership, there is no entry fee at this level.  

League level qualifying will be conducted during two windows, each window consisting of two full weeks. The dates are as follows:

1st Window: November 3 through November 16, 2007
2nd Window: January 5 through January 18, 2008

Qualifying competition is held in six divisions that are based on the Participant’s age as of August 1, 2007. The Divisions are: (Note: 11 & Under - Born on August 1, 1995 or Later, Age 12 and Above - Born Before August 1, 1995)

One in every ten participants will advance to the District Level of Competition in each division. There they will compete for a chance to advance onto the State Finals and compete for over $28,000 in Scholarships to be offered. The District Champion in each Division will also receive a scholarship of $200 (based on entries).  The District Scholarships total $12,000, bringing the state total of scholarships offered to over $40,000.

At the State Finals, the 12 & Over Handicap Division winners will receive a berth into the National Finals of the Pepsi USBC Youth Championships July 14-16, 2008 in Detroit, Michigan. The Pennsylvania State USBC Youth will receive eight additional berths based on USBC membership figures. The number advancing in each division will be six from the Boys Handicap and 4 from the Girls Handicap Divisions.

The Scratch Division winners will receive a berth into the 2008 USBC Junior Gold Championships, July 5-11, 2008 in Detroit, Michigan. These athletes will have their $150 entry fee paid for by USBC. In addition, the advancers out of the Pepsi USBC Youth Championships will also still be in competition for $15,000 in scholarships earmarked especially for Pepsi advancers, plus the opportunity for additional scholarships available to all athletes at the championships. The advancers must be Gold program members, or be eligible and purchase a membership prior to the championships. There is no requirement to be a Gold program member to enter the Scratch Division at the Center, District or State level.

The 11 & Under Divisions Finalists do not advance beyond the State Tournament Level.
